Important Update: G2026 Team Scotland Athletics Selection Policy Revealed

Scottish athletics and Team Scotland are excited to announce a significant amendment to the Commonwealth Games selection policy in preparation for Glasgow 2026. This update is crucial for athletes aspiring to compete at the Games, providing clarity on selection criteria and opportunities for representation.

A total of 25 spots have been allocated specifically for athletics within the overall Team Scotland for the upcoming Games next year. This allocation is an important aspect of the team composition, fostering a competitive environment among athletes.

It is essential to note that this figure (which excludes Para athletes) includes potential members of relay teams, highlighting the importance of teamwork in athletics. The qualifying period for achieving the necessary standards officially commenced at the beginning of 2025, aligning with the Selection Policy guidelines.

With the opportunity for up to 25 athletes to participate in Glasgow 2026, track and field events will represent a substantial portion of the overall Team Scotland, which encompasses a total of 10 different sports at this prestigious event. This significant allocation underscores the prominence of athletics in Scotland’s sporting landscape.

For Para athletes, selection places are determined through a Commonwealth ranking system as outlined in the Selection Policy, ensuring a fair and transparent process for all competitors.

The updated Games Selection Policy was officially issued on March 31, providing essential information to athletes and coaches regarding the selection process and expectations.
