Adoree’ Jackson in Talks for New York Giants Reunion

Minnesota Vikings News and Links, 12 March 2024

The New York Giants are currently in urgent need of a talented cornerback, and after missing opportunities to strengthen this critical position during the offseason, they appear poised to revisit options for improvement. The franchise understands the significance of a solid defense and aims to enhance their squad significantly.

According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson is in East Rutherford this Friday morning undergoing a physical examination as both parties engage in discussions regarding a potential new contract. This move indicates the Giants’ commitment to solidifying their defense ahead of the upcoming season.

Previously, the Giants allowed Jackson to leave during free agency; however, his market did not develop as expected. Jackson remains determined to compete in the 2024 season, ideally with a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, believing the Giants can fulfill that ambition. His commitment to winning is evident as he reflects on the potential the team demonstrated during their playoff run in 2022.

“I want to win a Super Bowl, and I know the Giants are capable of winning because we saw [in the 2022 playoff run] that it was a possibility. It boils down to the pieces and the staff being on the same page and doing the right thing to help us get there,” Jackson shared with the New York Post in February. This insight highlights his belief in the team’s potential if they can come together effectively.

Jackson also addressed the business aspect of football, particularly regarding General Manager Joe Schoen’s initial decision not to re-sign him. He acknowledged that while he desires to return, he understands the complexities involved. “If I come back, it’s all good. If I don’t, is it going to hurt? It will, but I know it’s a business,” he commented during an interview on Radio Row at the Super Bowl recently.

“At the same time, I know what I can do and the services that I bring to an organization — not just on the field, but being a locker-room presence and different things around the community. I’m hopeful [to be back], but you can never put anything past anybody.” His awareness of his multifaceted value to the team, both on and off the field, underscores his importance to the Giants.

Not only is Jackson familiar with the Giants, but he also has a strong relationship with Defensive Coordinator Shane Bowen, who served as the outside linebackers coach during Jackson’s tenure with the Tennessee Titans. This existing rapport could play a vital role in Jackson’s potential return, as Bowen took over the defensive coordinator role in Tennessee the same year Jackson joined the Giants.

At 28 years old, Jackson has participated in 83 career games, during which he has amassed impressive statistics, including 376 tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 56 passes defended, 4 interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. His experience and performance record make him a valuable asset for any team looking to bolster their defense.
