RB Leipzig Faces Setback as Antonio Nusa Sustains Knee Injury

RB Leipzig has officially announced that their promising young talent, Antonio Nusa, aged 19, has suffered a significant knee injury during the team’s recent 2-0 victory against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga. This unfortunate setback means that Nusa will be unavailable for selection until the end of March, raising concerns about the team’s performance in upcoming matches.

Medical scans conducted on Tuesday confirmed the extent of Nusa’s injury, which could see him sidelined for as many as six crucial fixtures across all competitions. This includes a vital DFB Pokal quarter-final clash against Wolfsburg and an important Bundesliga encounter against Borussia Dortmund scheduled for March 15. Furthermore, Leipzig is set to face Borussia Mönchengladbach on March 29, and the absence of Nusa may significantly impact their chances of success in these matches.

“We’re hoping that Antonio can recover quickly. This injury is obviously a blow to us – he’s enjoyed a really strong debut season at RB Leipzig. We will do everything we can to compensate for the current absences as a team,” stated Marcel Schäfer, Leipzig’s Managing Director, emphasizing the impact of this injury on the squad’s morale and performance.

Nusa joined RB Leipzig from Club Brugge in August 2024 for a substantial fee of €21 million and has since made a significant impact, participating in 32 matches across all competitions. In this time, he has scored five goals and provided seven assists, showcasing his potential and skill. This injury comes on the heels of another setback for Leipzig, as they confirmed last week that Xaver Schlager is also dealing with an injury, compounding the challenges faced by the team.
