Barcelona forward opens up on poor scoring form recently: “I am not a machine”

Robert Lewandowski is going through a tough time at Barcelona. The forward did not have the best of preseason and has struggled to score goals in these early parts of the campaign.

Lewandowski talked about his underwhelming form in a recent interview with L’Equipe, admitting that he has not reached the same level as he did with Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski admits his poor form

“It’s very difficult to always be on top. I’ve been working at this for over 20 years and you can’t always do the perfect job,” he said (h/t Diario SPORT). “I am not a machine or an animal. I am a human being.”

“Whether you’re a little ‘touched’ or not feeling good about yourself, what we ask of you is that pays off. The rest is not interesting, few turn the first page of the book, the one that shows the result,” he added.

Lewandowski has scored two goals in four matches so far this season. But more than his goalscoring, the forward’s lack of involvement in offensive plays has been a concerning factor for Barcelona.

The Pole hopeful of getting back on track

Despite his scoring rut, Lewandowski is hopeful of returning to scoring ways and becoming a regular source of productivity for Barcelona. He trusts his ‘scoring instincts’.

“I’m always hungry. You can score, have great games but you have to lower the tension,” he said.

“There is always an after and I can’t delay too much. If you stop at ‘I’m the best’ it no longer works. When I was little, I scored a lot and I was never satisfied,” he added.

“I just stick to giving my best in all areas and trying to do something that has never been done before,” he further added.

Lewandowski went on to suggest that such goalless streaks do not affect him mentally, adding, “I also don’t dwell too much on goalless streaks, it’s something that counts for the media and the fans, but I try to see the rest.”

Finally, the former Bayern Munich superstar expressed his delight at Barcelona and said he is at the right place at the right time.

“I am very happy to be in an incredible club and with an incredible team. People believe in me and I experience beautiful emotions. I am sure that I am in the right place at the right time,” the forward said.
