During the past season, I closely observed Drake Maye, anticipating the Broncos would seek a quarterback in the draft. In my evaluations, one player who consistently stood out was Nesbit. He developed a strong rapport with Maye, serving as a reliable outlet during critical moments on the field. This connection could translate well into an NFL environment, where having a dependable target is crucial for a quarterback’s success.

Nesbit has shown consistent improvement throughout his college career, culminating in a career-high of 41 receptions for 585 yards and five touchdowns as a junior in 2023. Standing at 6’5” and weighing 235 pounds, he possesses the ideal physical attributes to create mismatches in the passing game. His ability to gain yards after the catch and surprising speed make him a compelling prospect. Although he needs to strengthen his blocking skills, his overall talent suggests that he could become the versatile ‘Joker’ player that Coach Payton envisions for the position.

In his current senior season, Nesbit has recorded seven receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown. Earlier this season, he became the all-time leader in touchdowns for a tight end in North Carolina’s history. While there’s still much of the season left to play, I anticipate that he will emerge as one of the biggest surprises in this draft cycle as his skills continue to shine on the field.

Spotlighting Ollie Gordon II, Running Back from Oklahoma State Cowboys

This season, the Broncos’ rushing attack has struggled to find consistency, despite having talent in the backfield. While Javonte Williams approaches the final year of his contract, the team also has promising younger players like Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, and Blake Watson under contract for the foreseeable future. However, it’s still too early to determine if any of them can emerge as a true #1 back, which necessitates exploring additional options in this year’s draft.

Earlier in the college football season, I discussed Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who is currently playing exceptional football and is on track to be a first-round selection. Yet, another notable prospect that Broncos fans should monitor is Ollie Gordon II from Oklahoma State. His status in this draft cycle is worth watching as the season progresses.

Gordon entered the 2024 season with high expectations, given his impressive performance last year as a sophomore. He rushed for 1,732 yards on 285 carries and scored 21 rushing touchdowns, in addition to contributing 330 yards and a touchdown as a receiver. His total of 2,062 all-purpose yards earned him significant Heisman Trophy consideration, finishing seventh in the voting.

However, his junior year has not started as anticipated. With only 334 yards and an average of just 3.8 yards per carry through five games, many Oklahoma State fans are puzzled by his underutilization, especially as the team has faced challenges, including two consecutive losses leading into their matchup against West Virginia.

At 6’2″ and 225 pounds, along with sub-4.5 speed, Gordon’s physical attributes and running style invite comparisons to Derrick Henry. He displays remarkable patience, excellent vision, and a knack for gaining yards after contact. While he may not possess elite speed, his long strides allow him to cover considerable ground swiftly, making him a formidable presence on the field.

The running back class for this year is exceptionally deep, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see eight to ten running backs selected within the Top 100 picks. Gordon’s physical traits are not easily replicated, and, as we saw last year, he can be a game-changer and a nightmare for opposing defenses. I firmly believe he belongs in the Top 64 selections, and he is undoubtedly a player that Broncos scouts should closely monitor.

Exploring Barion Brown, Wide Receiver from the University of Kentucky Wildcats

It’s still too early to assess the career trajectories of promising young receivers Devaughn Vele, Troy Franklin, and Marvin Mims Jr. Although all three possess considerable potential, their performances this season leave much to be desired. Development timelines for receivers can vary, and while we shouldn’t count any of them out yet, the Broncos must remain proactive in considering additional options for the 2025 Draft.

Continuing to pursue new talent is essential, especially when speed and explosiveness are beneficial assets in a receiving corps. That’s precisely why Kentucky’s Barion Brown earns a spot in this week’s draft discussions. In fact, he may be the fastest player eligible for this draft, boasting a projected 40-yard dash time of under 4.3 seconds, making him a coveted prospect for teams seeking speed.

During his sophomore season with the Wildcats, Brown recorded 43 receptions for 539 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed as a rusher with 12 carries for 147 yards and another touchdown. Beyond his offensive capabilities, Brown is recognized as one of the most dangerous return specialists in college football, averaging 36 yards per return and scoring three touchdowns in 2023.

Despite being somewhat inexperienced in route running and smaller in stature, Brown possesses immense potential. Elite athleticism is a rare quality that can’t be taught. Every NFL team will covet a playmaker of his caliber—someone capable of scoring as a receiver, rushing, and excelling as a returner. This multifaceted skill set makes him an attractive target for the Broncos as they seek to enhance their offensive options.

Denver’s offense has struggled in their first four games, highlighting the need for a spark. Although Brown is still a bit raw, he possesses the potential to be an impactful playmaker at the professional level. As a junior, if he continues to showcase his abilities, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him declare for the draft early. Fans can catch him in action next weekend when the Wildcats face Vanderbilt, providing an opportunity to see his skills firsthand.
