Calgary Flames Coaching Search: NHL Rumors Unveiled

Donnie & Dhali: Elliotte Friedman Discusses the Calgary Flames Coaching Search Strategies

NHLRumors.com transcription

Don Taylor: “Hey Elliotte, there’s a name that has surfaced recently, not in a management position, but regarding the Calgary Flames—Travis Green, the former head coach of the Vancouver Canucks. What insights can you share about his potential candidacy?”

Friedman: “Travis Green is certainly going to be considered in the mix for the head coaching position with the Calgary Flames, but the competition will be quite intense. For instance, they have Mitch Love, who is a two-time AHL Coach of the Year, within their ranks. They need to make a decision about whether he is the right fit for them moving forward. Essentially, they are at a crossroads where it’s time to either commit to Mitch or explore other options. The question remains: what more can Mitch Love accomplish within their organization?”

Additionally, there are a few other candidates like Ryan Huska and Kirk Muller, who have been part of the coaching staff and will also be evaluated. Andrew Brunette is another key name; his primary goal will be to unlock the potential of Jonathan Huberdeau, who he has enjoyed significant success with in the past.

Another candidate that has been mentioned repeatedly is Alex Tanguay, known for his excellent offensive acumen and his previous playing experience alongside legends like Jarome Iginla and Craig Conroy. While Travis Green will definitely be part of the discussions, he will face tough competition. It’s important to note that Green is eager to return to coaching; many individuals tend to excel in their second opportunities, and he is certainly on their radar.

TSN: Darren Dreger provides insights during Insider Trading on the current coaching search for the Calgary Flames.

“It’s no surprise that Gerard Gallant, who was recently released by the New York Rangers, is a top contender for the coaching role in Calgary. His history with Jonathan Huberdeau makes him a strong candidate, especially since the Flames will need Huberdeau to feel comfortable and perform at his best in the upcoming season. However, the search won’t be limited to Gallant; they plan to interview a variety of candidates and conduct a thorough vetting process. Internally, Mitch Love, who led the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers to a successful season, is also expected to be a serious contender for the position.”
