The Dallas Cowboys employ a unique strategy in managing their franchise, distinguishing themselves from other teams in the league. While their marketing prowess has established them as the most valuable sports franchise in the United States, this approach does not always translate effectively into building a competitive lineup. The leadership duo of Jerry and Stephen Jones often takes a cautious stance when it comes to compensating their players, which can lead to misunderstandings, dissatisfaction, and sometimes even player departures or inflated contracts. Despite these challenges, there is little indication that they will shift their strategy in the near future.
During a media session at the rookie minicamp, Executive Vice President Stephen Jones acknowledged the lack of progress on CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension, highlighting the team’s cautious approach. He emphasized that such negotiations typically unfold quickly once both parties engage in discussions, while also needing to consider other significant contracts across the league. “There’s no way to put a timeline on them,” Jones remarked. “As I told y’all, they got their eyes on other players around the league too. I think these are big contracts and they usually don’t get done in a hurry but when they get moving, they move rapidly.”

Jones’s perspective reflects the urgency felt by the organization, particularly as they aim to secure a contract for their top offensive player before the situation escalates further. Recently, notable players like Amon-Ra St. Brown and AJ Brown have already signed lucrative contract extensions, and with Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson also poised to command substantial offers, the market for wide receivers is shifting rapidly. If the Cowboys delay, Lamb’s contract demands could surpass those of his peers, a recurring theme that has plagued the organization. However, the Cowboys seem determined to stick to their strategy: if it isn’t broken, they won’t fix it, even amidst their Super Bowl drought lasting over two decades.
