Chelsea defender strikes personal deal with Aston Villa

Gallagher Talks Expected as Chelsea Faces Transfer Ultimatum

Axel Disasi is set to finalize his transfer to Aston Villa after agreeing to personal terms with the club.

Aston Villa is urgently seeking to bolster their defensive lineup by acquiring a centre-back before the critical transfer deadline next Monday. This move comes in response to recent injuries affecting key players Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings. Mings’ situation is particularly concerning, as he had to leave the pitch in tears following a tough tackle from Mohammed Kudus during the match against West Ham on Sunday. His history of injury, having missed a staggering 445 days due to an ACL tear, adds to the team’s urgency to secure a replacement.

Unai Emery is feeling the strain of a depleted squad, particularly after the recent transfer of Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce. Following the disappointing result against West Ham, Emery has made it clear that strengthening the defence with a new centre-back is a priority before the transfer window closes. He stated, “We are trying to be intelligent and make the best decisions this transfer window. It’s not easy to change some players at this stage. We managed to move Jaden (Philogene) and (Donyell) Malen, and Kosta (Nedeljković) is close to leaving, but we are fully focused on securing a centre-back.”

Disasi has emerged as a prime target for Aston Villa and is reportedly open to leaving Chelsea. The French international has only started four Premier League matches this season and is eager to find a club where he can secure a more consistent starting role. His desire for regular game time has made this potential move appealing, as he seeks to revitalize his career.

According to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Disasi has officially agreed to personal terms with Aston Villa and has signaled his willingness to complete the transfer to Villa Park. Despite interest from various clubs throughout Europe, Disasi has chosen to prioritize his discussions with Emery, indicating a strong desire to join the club.

The two clubs are now in the process of negotiating the details of the transfer agreement. At this point, it remains uncertain whether Aston Villa is pursuing a permanent transfer or a loan deal for Disasi. This decision could significantly impact how both clubs approach their strategies for the remainder of the season.

Disasi joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in a lucrative £38.5 million deal in 2023, where he made a commendable 44 appearances across all competitions last season. However, since the arrival of Enzo Maresca as head coach this summer, his playing time has significantly diminished. The 26-year-old defender has also earned five caps for the French national team, showcasing his capabilities on the international stage.
