Good morning, passionate supporters of Borussia Dortmund.
For those who are new to our community, you might not be aware that we previously shared daily updates featuring the latest news and events surrounding Borussia Dortmund. However, as time progressed, we realized that there wasn’t enough engaging content to keep up with this daily endeavor, and it became less enjoyable for us to produce. Today, given the influx of news and developments, I’ve decided to bring back these updates, at least for today, to keep everyone informed and engaged.
Let’s dive into the latest updates!
Dortmund’s Leadership Shake-Up: Mislintat on the Chopping Block
It appears that the first major change in Borussia Dortmund’s supervisory board is on the horizon. Acting CEO Lars Ricken has indicated that he intends to terminate Sven Mislintat’s position. This situation raises questions about Mislintat’s actual responsibilities within the club. Since his joining, there has been a noticeable increase in tension and discord within the supervisory board, making it difficult for the team to maintain a unified front. With the recent extension of Sebastian Kehl’s contract, Mislintat seemed increasingly vulnerable to this decision, as he has often been at odds with other board members over strategic directions.
Lars Ricken will sack Sven Mislintat. Ricken sees this as the key to successful, focussed and collaborative cooperation in the interests of the club. The decision will be announced soon.

The ongoing disagreements between Ricken and Mislintat have been well-documented, particularly their public disputes over Mislintat’s ambition to usurp Kehl’s role as sporting director. These conflicts have created a negative atmosphere for the club, overshadowing what should have been a productive winter transfer window filled with opportunities to enhance the team.
Additionally, it’s important to highlight that Mattias Sammer, whose precise role remains somewhat ambiguous, has received a mandate from the club. He must choose between continuing his position at Borussia Dortmund or retaining his role as a pundit for Amazon Prime. This ultimatum reflects the club’s desire for clear boundaries regarding its personnel and their commitments.
Injury Update: Nmecha Out, Özcan Returns to Borussia Dortmund
In a disappointing turn of events for Borussia Dortmund, Felix Nmecha, the team’s only consistently performing midfielder, has suffered a significant ligament injury to his knee. At this moment, it remains uncertain whether he will require surgery, but he is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, presenting a considerable challenge for the team’s midfield dynamics. To address this pressing issue, the club has opted to recall Salih Özcan from his loan at Wolfsburg, a move that reflects their urgency in needing to bolster the squad.

While the desire for Özcan’s return may be questionable, Dortmund appears to anticipate a prolonged absence for Nmecha, which necessitated this decision. This situation underscores the club’s faith in players like Can, Groß, and Watjen, who will need to step up and perform under pressure.
Dortmund’s Search for a New Head Coach: Candidates Narrowed Down
Crafting a suitable headline was trickier than anticipated.
Borussia Dortmund is reportedly narrowing its search for a new head coach, with the final candidates believed to be Nico Kovac and another unnamed individual whose identity remains undisclosed. Reports indicate that Lars Ricken has traveled to Austria to discuss potential employment terms with Kovac. However, Kovac seems hesitant to step into a temporary role without guarantees of an extension if his tenure proves successful.
Kovac was mentioned briefly in previous discussions regarding potential coaching replacements for Dortmund, but his emergence as the leading candidate is somewhat surprising. His coaching career in the Bundesliga has been inconsistent, yet he has notable achievements, including winning a domestic double with Bayern Munich, which is a significant accomplishment that certainly catches the eye of any football club.

Kovac is known as a no-nonsense manager, characterized by his distinct tactical philosophy and high expectations of his players. His approach could provide the stability and direction that Borussia Dortmund desperately needs to navigate through this tumultuous period.
