As we gear up for the highly anticipated matchup, it’s officially ‘game week’ for the Denver Broncos, who are set to clash with the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday in their inaugural preseason game. The excitement is palpable, and the big question on everyone’s mind is who will take the field this weekend—particularly, which quarterback will be leading the team as the starter in this crucial game.
In typical preseason fashion, starters usually participate in a series or two during their first game, then play a full half in the second, with little to no action in the final game. This means fans will soon get a glimpse of the potential starting lineup in just a few days. Broncos’ Head Coach Sean Payton was asked about his timeline for announcing the starters for this upcoming game, indicating that the decision may come by Tuesday or Wednesday, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
“Yea it’ll be probably Tuesday or Wednesday,” Payton stated confidently. “We have the practice laid out. Generally midweek, we will discuss the reps. Phase one, phase two, phase three. We’ll play—if they’re healthy, we’ll play everyone. By midweek, we’ll have a clearer picture.” Coach Payton’s meticulous approach suggests that fans can expect a well-prepared team as they head into the game.
Positive reports are circulating about rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who has shown impressive skills during training camp and might well be in contention to outshine Jarrett Stidham for the starting role. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the coaching staff opts for Stidham to start the first game, allowing Nix to ease into the rhythm of professional play before taking the reins in the second preseason matchup. Yet, if Nix is ready to go, there’s a strong case for putting him out there right away.

Do we really think Sean Payton would easily hand out a definitive depth chart? They merely released something because it was required.

There isn’t a single Broncos rookie listed above the third team on the unofficial depth chart.
This alone indicates that it holds minimal relevance to the reality of the upcoming season. The team releases this information merely due to league requirements.
It serves to fill airtime on radio and podcasts.

Today’s practice was notably run-heavy for the Broncos.
During the first-team period, it’s safe to say that the defense started off strong, with most runs being stopped at or behind the line of scrimmage.

Jarrett Stidham made a perfect throw to Adam Trautman from 10 yards out for a touchdown during 7-on-7 drills. Riley Moss provided tight coverage, but the throw and catch were exceptional.

Bo Nix showcased back-to-back impressive plays during 7-on-7 drills.
The first was a beautifully executed touch pass to Lucas Krull for 20 yards, bringing the ball down to the 5-yard line.
He followed that with a find of a wide-open Tim Patrick for an easy 20-yard touchdown.
