Dodgers Name Minor League Players of the Year for 2023

The Los Angeles Dodgers named their minor league Players of the Year for 2023 on Thursday, giving the honors to hot hitting infielder Michael Busch and fast rising bullpen arm Kyle Hurt.

Busch has again been one of the top hitters in Triple-A this season, slashing .322/.426/.613 with 26 home runs and 89 RBI for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, proving himself as a power threat in the heart of the OKC lineup. The 25-year-old currently ranks as the organization’s No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline.

Hurt embarked on a meteoric rise in 2023, pitching for both Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City before making his major league debut on September 12. The 25-year-old has the best strikeouts per nine innings ratio in the minors this season, posting a 14.9 K/9 mark across Tulsa and Oklahoma City before finding himself in Los Angeles.

He took advantage of his opportunity, throwing two perfect innings against the San Diego Padres before being sent back down to Triple-A. The local product — he pitched for USC from 2018 through 2020 — stands as the team’s No. 12 prospect after his productive year and may find more big league time next season.

For Busch, he hasn’t received consistent playing time in MLB which likely hurt his big league production — he slashed .167/.246/.292 across just 27 games with Los Angeles in his first season with MLB time — but if he gets everyday time with the team, he’s definitely shown the potential to be productive at the game’s highest level.
