The Philadelphia Eagles Make a Strategic Move by Selecting Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo with the 22nd overall pick in the highly anticipated 2024 NFL Draft. Following his selection, Mitchell engaged in an insightful conversation with reporters from Detroit, sharing his initial thoughts and feelings about joining the Eagles.
Reflecting on the draft process, Mitchell expressed his anticipation as he watched offensive players being selected ahead of him. Despite the wait, he conveys a strong belief that the Eagles are the perfect fit for his skills and aspirations as a player.
“Right now, I’m with the right fit, I’m with the right organization, we’re with the right players, the right city, so I mean, I feel good about this draft pick right here.”
When questioned about the unexpected early selections of other cornerbacks in the draft, Mitchell maintained a positive outlook. He firmly believes that everything happens for a reason and is enthusiastic about his future with the Eagles, perceiving this opportunity as a significant step in his career.
“I feel good. I’m excited, and I’m ready to get to work.”
Mitchell has a strong connection with several coaches at Toledo who have previously worked with head coach Nick Sirianni. While one of these coaches is a personal friend, Mitchell admitted that he did not get extensive insight about Sirianni’s coaching style. Nevertheless, he was aware of the strong ties stemming from their shared background in the Mount Union football program.
Confident in his abilities, the cornerback expressed his readiness to step onto the field immediately. He believes he can excel in various roles within the defensive lineup, demonstrating his versatility and eagerness to learn from veteran players.
“I feel like I can come in and play inside, outside. I got some vets in front of me I can really learn from, really soak the game up from Darius Slay — that’s somebody who I model my game after —, and James Bradberry. So, it don’t matter where I play, I just want to help the team.”
Mitchell elaborated on his determination and mindset as a cornerback, recalling his journey from a small town and a lesser-known college. He has consistently sought to earn respect through his hard work and dedication, believing he has successfully demonstrated his capabilities throughout his college career and the pre-draft process.
“I feel like my whole life, I’ve just been trying to demand respect.”
Mitchell candidly shared his challenges, including academic struggles during high school. However, Toledo University offered him a chance to pursue his dreams, and he committed to staying there throughout his college experience. He emphasized that no amount of money or other opportunities would have swayed him from this path.
