Erik ten Hag questioned on Manchester United takeover bids as Glazers entertain interest from Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Erik ten Hag has kept his cards close to his chest amid the ongoing Manchester United takeover saga.

The Dutchman was asked about the news that several bids had come in for the club, including from Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

But Ten Hag insisted he is sticking to his job and it is ‘nothing’ to do with him.

He told Sky Sports before United faced Leicester on Sunday: “I think for the players, for the staff, for me, of course we are following the news.

“We are of course curious about what will happen because we are committed to the club but it has nothing to do with us.

“We have to focus on football.

“That is all that we have to do, we have to perform, we have to get the right results in and don’t get distracted from things going around or around the club.”

The Glazers have put United up for sale and are looking for bids of £6billion and above with a ‘soft’ deadline being placed on Friday for parties to register interest.

Billionaire Ratcliffe is also a United fangetty

It has led to two confirmations of bids, one from Sheikh Al Thani, who is reported to be worth £1.3bn alone but is part of the Qatari royal family, said to be worth a total of £275bn.

Ratcliffe, owner of OGC Nice, is reported to have a net value of £11.3bn and is the CEO of the INEOS chemicals group and revealed his plans to make the club ‘debt-free’.

The United fanbase is torn on who they want to lead them past the Glazers while there is also reported interest from American hedge fund Elliott.

A statement from the Al Thani bid said: “Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani today confirmed his submission of a bid for 100 per cent of Manchester United Football Club.

The Glazer family reportedly value the club at £6bnAFP

“The bid plans to return the Club to its former glories both on and off the pitch, and — above all — will seek to place the fans at the heart of Manchester United Football Club once more.

“The bid will be completely debt free via Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation, which will look to invest in the football teams, the training centre, the stadium and wider infrastructure, the fan experience and the communities the Club supports.

“The vision of the bid is for Manchester United Football Club to be renowned for footballing excellence, and regarded as the greatest football club in the world. More details of the bid will be released, when appropriate, if and when the bid process develops.”
