Sassuolo’s sporting director Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed that Juventus is showing interest in the talented midfielder Davide Frattesi, but they are not the only club vying for his signature. The Neroverdi have built a reputation for nurturing exceptional young talents who often move to larger teams, with notable examples being forwards Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori, who transferred to West Ham and Napoli respectively last summer. During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Carnevali elaborated on the potential futures of several of their current stars, including Frattesi, who has expressed a desire to return to Roma this summer:
What was the outcome of your discussion with (Juventus CFO) Francesco Calvo after the last league meeting?
“We are aware that Juventus has a keen interest in Frattesi, but they are not the only ones… There will be an opportunity to discuss this matter further in the future. What is certain is that Davide possesses the qualities necessary to thrive at a major club. As always, in the event of a transfer, our preference would be to sell him to an Italian team. However, we have recently sold Scamacca and Traorè to the Premier League.”
What is Laurienté’s market value?
“His value is contingent upon the interest from potential buyers. He is highly valued, and I anticipate that his market worth could increase over time. Given his skill set, I wouldn’t be surprised to see clubs from England making offers. Nonetheless, at this moment, I am not considering selling him.”
Between June 2022 and January 2023, you generated over €100 million from the sales of Raspadori, Traoré, and Scamacca. Would it surprise you if Scamacca were to leave West Ham this summer to return to Italy on loan, with Juventus being mentioned?
“I have not had direct communication with Gianluca, but it would not shock me. Any opportunity for Juventus or other top Italian clubs would be significant. There are few strikers in Serie A that possess the characteristics of Scamacca.”
How do you feel seeing Raspadori, a talented player developed in Sassuolo’s youth academy, competing in the Champions League quarterfinals and on the verge of winning the Scudetto with Napoli?
“It fills us with pride here in Sassuolo. Raspadori stands a chance to become the first player from our youth system to win the Scudetto. Over the past two years, our Under 18 team has achieved great success at the Viareggio tournament, and we are hopeful that these emerging talents will pave the way for the future of our club.”
Both Dionisi and Allegri frequently exchange compliments. Given your familiarity with both, do you find them to be similar in coaching style?
“Dionisi is still on his journey to establish himself, but he possesses all the traits necessary to become a top coach like Max. Allegri may not always prioritize attractive football, yet his teams consistently achieve remarkable results even in challenging circumstances, such as the current situation.”
With De Zerbi’s remarkable success in England, do you have concerns about foreign interest in Dionisi?
“We have a meeting scheduled soon to discuss our future. Our desire is to continue this journey together.”
Vlahovic began the season with an impressive brace against you, yet he has not scored for Juventus since February. What are your thoughts?
“Knock on wood… I hope he finds his scoring touch again against Sporting.”
What’s your prediction: will Juventus secure the Europa League title?
“They may not be the favorites, but they are a formidable team capable of achieving it.”
You’ve often expressed a desire to see Chiellini at Sassuolo. Now, are there any Juventus players who intrigue you?
“I haven’t given up hope for Chiellini. Perhaps after his stint in the U.S., he might consider a final chapter with us! Club owner Squinzi had a keen eye for talent and would have liked to see Di Maria at our club.”
Whenever there’s speculation about new managers for Juventus, your name frequently comes up. Do you see this as a missed opportunity, or could the timing be right now?
“My journey at Sassuolo is ongoing, and I have a special bond with the Squinzi family. However, I still harbor ambitions of reaching a top club.”
Are you concerned about the potential effects of the Turin prosecutor’s Prisma investigation into Juventus on Sassuolo?
“We remain calm and are waiting to see how things unfold.”
