Giants Announce Contract Extension With Key Special Teams Player

The New York Giants entered the NFL offseason with plenty of work to do, especially in terms of holding on to their key guys.

And, while everybody was focused on QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley, and rightfully so, they also needed to make sure to come to terms with some other not-so-notable contributors.

Fortunately, they did just that by re-signing Jamie Gillan on a two-year deal.

And, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the agreement will be a two-year, $4 million deal that could be worth as much as $5 million depending on incentives.

Another big extension for the #Giants: They’ve agreed to terms with punter Jamie Gillan on a two-year, $4 million deal that’s worth up to $5M with incentives, per source. The Scottish Hammer stays in the Big Apple. pic.twitter.com/iUypfsje3O

The 25-year-old, known league-wide as “The Scottish Hammer,” is a four-year player who comes with experience with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.

He’s coming off the best season of his career, averaging 46.8 yards per punt.

It’s worth noting that GM Joe Schoen claimed that it was a priority of his to keep their own free agents beyond this season.

They’ve surely done an outstanding job of that thus far, even though some might think they’ve vastly overpaid for Jones’ services.

Moreover, placing Barkley under the franchise tag wasn’t exactly ideal, but they still managed to hold on to the Penn State star while saving up enough cap space to bring WR Sterling Shepard back as well.

Now, the G-Men will look to add even more talent to their ranks when the free agency negotiating window opens on Monday, although the signing period won’t start until Wednesday afternoon.
