Hull City predicted XI and latest team news for Sunderland match

Hull City Prepares for Vital Clash Against Sunderland in Search of First Win in Four Matches

This season has proven to be a significant disappointment for Hull City, who were previously vying for a place in the playoffs. Now, they find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle with only 14 matches remaining. The pressure is mounting as they strive to secure their position in the Championship, a situation that demands immediate improvement in performance to avoid dropping down a league.

Currently positioned at 21st in the Championship table, the Tigers are just one point clear of Derby County, who sit in the relegation zone at 22nd. Following the tumultuous Tim Walter appointment, the club has entrusted new manager Ruben Selles with the crucial task of steering the team away from relegation. His leadership will be vital as they face an uphill battle to regain their form and confidence over the final stretch of the season.

Under Selles’ guidance, the team has secured four victories in 14 matches, yet they must find a way to reverse their fortunes in the upcoming fixtures. The squad underwent significant changes during the January transfer window, with a total of eight new players joining the ranks, including the highly sought-after Louie Barry. Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival on loan from Aston Villa, Barry has yet to make a significant impact and is still in search of his first goal contribution for the club.

Barry attracted interest from several Championship clubs, including their upcoming rivals Sunderland. Hull City’s roster also features former Sunderland loanees Joe Gelhardt and Mason Burstow, alongside promising academy graduate John Egan. This blend of talent will be crucial as they seek to improve their standing in the league.

In their previous encounter, Sunderland emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, a match that left Hull City players feeling aggrieved after they believed the referee hindered their play leading up to Wilson Isidor’s contentious goal.

Reporter Baz Cooper has indicated that Hull City may see the return of defenders Charlie Hughes and Fin Burns for this weekend’s match, a much-needed boost for the squad. Their experience and defensive skills will be essential for a strong performance against Sunderland.

Cooper also reported that midfielder Kasey Palmer is nearing a return to fitness, although the match against Sunderland may come too soon for the former Coventry City player. His presence would undoubtedly enhance the team’s midfield options.

Unfortunately for Hull City, they will once again be without January signing Lincoln due to a knee injury that he sustained last week. His absence will be felt as he is not expected to return until April, which delays his debut for HCAFC. The team continues to grapple with injuries, with long-term absentees Mohamed Belloumi and Liam Millar also remaining sidelined with ACL injuries, further complicating their quest for survival in the league.

Predicted Starting XI for Hull City Against Sunderland

(4-2-3-1 Formation)

Goalkeeper: Pandur; Defenders: Coyle, Egan, Jones, McLoughlin; Midfielders: Slater, Alzate; Forwards: Kamara, Crooks, Barry; Striker: Joseph

For the upcoming match against Sunderland, we anticipate two changes to the Hull City starting XI that faced Norwich City last weekend. Joao Pedro is expected to make way for January signing Kyle Joseph, who will lead the line as the main striker. This adjustment aims to inject fresh energy and attacking prowess into the team’s performance.

Additionally, Joe Gelhardt is likely to be replaced in the lineup by Abu Kamara, who will provide the Tigers with much-needed natural width on the right flank. This tactical shift is designed to enhance Hull City’s attacking options and create more opportunities in front of goal.

While Burstow and Gelhardt will remain on the bench, both players will be eager to make an impression if called upon, especially after experiencing mixed fortunes during their loan spells on Wearside. Their contributions from the bench could prove vital as Hull seeks to secure a much-needed victory.

Defensively, Egan will once again partner with Alfie Jones at the back. Although Charlie Hughes and Fin Burns are set to return to the bench, they may not yet be ready to step into the starting XI right away due to their recent injuries.
