Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano has once again proven itself as a dominant force in women’s volleyball by reclaiming the title at the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship held in Hangzhou. This remarkable victory marks the third world title for the Italian team, following their previous wins in 2019 and 2022. The Panthers showcased their prowess by remaining undefeated throughout the tournament, not dropping a single set, and demonstrating their exceptional skill and teamwork. In the previous championship in 2021, they had to settle for a silver medal, making this comeback even sweeter.

This year, the silver medal was awarded to the host team, Tianjin Bohai Bank, marking the best performance by a Chinese club in the history of the Club World Championships. This achievement surpasses their previous best, which was a bronze medal earned last year. Meanwhile, the Italian newcomers, Numia Vero Volley Milan, made a significant impact by clinching the bronze medal in their debut at this prestigious tournament.

In front of a raucous crowd of over six thousand enthusiastic fans at the Huanglong Sports Center in Hangzhou, Imoco displayed an impressive performance, leaving no room for their hosts. Led by their remarkable Swedish star, Isabelle Haak, the team delivered a commanding 3-0 victory in the gold medal match, showcasing their dominance with scores of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-20. Imoco’s comprehensive victory encompassed excellence in all aspects of the game, including attacking, serving, and blocking.

Isabelle Haak truly shone in this match, achieving a match-high total of 25 points, which included 19 powerful spike kills, three aces, and three blocks. Her exceptional performance set the tone for the team’s success. Furthermore, teammate Sarah Fahr contributed significantly with four blocks and one ace, totaling 11 points. Imoco’s outside hitter, Zhu Ting, who played in her home country, added 14 points, including the crucial match-winning hit. Brazilian teammate Gabriela Guimaraes also played a key role by scoring 10 points. On the Tianjin side, Wang Yizhu and Li Yingying led the scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Earlier in the day, Numia Vero Volley Milan ensured their Club World Championship debut was memorable by securing a bronze medal after defeating Brazil’s Dentil Praia Clube Uberlandia. This match marked a disappointing fourth-place finish for Dentil Praia, which is their second consecutive and third overall in the tournament’s history.

In a decisive 3-0 victory with scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-13, Vero Volley demonstrated their superiority, particularly in serving, amassing a remarkable 9-1 advantage in aces, and leading in spikes with 34-27. Their blocking was equally impressive, dominating with an 18-4 advantage. The team’s standout player, Paola Egonu, excelled in all categories, contributing six blocks, three aces, and 13 successful attacks, culminating in a match-high total of 22 points. Additionally, her young Serbian teammate, Hena Kurtagic, made her mark with five blocks and five successful attacks. On the other hand, Dentil Praia’s top scorer, Payton Caffrey, managed to secure nine points.

Isabelle Haak from Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano has been honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Hangzhou, China. At just 25 years old and standing at 1.96 meters tall, Haak has achieved this prestigious accolade for the third time in her career, having previously won it in 2022 and 2021 while playing for VakifBank Istanbul as well.

In addition to her MVP recognition, Haak was part of a distinguished lineup of seven exceptional players selected for the symbolic Hangzhou 2024 Dream Team, honored during a memorable awards ceremony following the championship match:

She was surpassed only by Li Yingying with 104 points and Vero Volley’s Paola Egonu with 89 points. Additionally, Haak achieved recognition as the third-best server and the fourth-best attacker in the competition, further solidifying her status as a leading player.
