In an exciting clash on January 15 at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, the India Women’s cricket team faced off against Ireland Women’s cricket team in the third ODI of the series. Winning the toss, India opted to take the initiative by batting first. The dynamic opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal set the tone for the innings, scoring an impressive 90 runs during the powerplay. Their aggressive play did not cease, resulting in a monumental 233-run partnership for the first wicket before Mandhana was dismissed, amassing a remarkable 135 runs.
The escalating run rate was significantly aided by Ireland’s fielding errors and missed catch opportunities. Pratika continued to build on the momentum, accumulating runs alongside Richa Ghosh, who contributed a solid 59 runs off just 42 balls. Pratika’s performance was particularly noteworthy as she achieved her first international century, further solidifying her position in the match.

Pratika concluded her outstanding innings with a stellar score of 154 runs off merely 129 deliveries, ornamented with 20 boundaries and a six. Contributions from Tejal Hasabnis and Harleen Deol, who scored 28 and 15 runs respectively, propelled India to a staggering total of 435 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, marking it as their highest total in ODIs and the fourth-highest in women’s ODI history.
Ireland’s Batting Struggles Highlighted by Indian Bowlers’ Dominance
As Ireland attempted to chase down the hefty target, they found themselves in disarray. The batters struggled to find their rhythm, consistently falling prey to the relentless pressure exerted by the Indian bowlers. Only Sarah Forbes (41 runs) and Orla Prendergast (36 runs) managed to make significant contributions, while the rest of the batting lineup failed to reach even the 20-run mark. Ultimately, Ireland’s innings came to a swift end at 131 runs, all within just 31.4 overs, leading to a clean sweep of the series for India at 3-0.
The victory margin of 304 runs was not only a stunning achievement but also set a record for the highest win margin in women’s ODIs. On the bowling front, Deepti Sharma shone with three wickets, while Tanuja Kanwar took two wickets. Other contributors included Titas Sidhu, Sayali Satghare, and Minnu Mani, each claiming one wicket. Additionally, with her remarkable century, Mandhana secured the title of the fastest century by an Indian female cricketer in ODIs.
