When Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles, it immediately sent the NFL world into a spiral.
Conversations began about the New York Jets quarterback position, and whether Zach Wilson was their long-term answer.
The Jets reportedly began calling around to free-agent quarterbacks, adding someone as competition for Wilson.
While a long list of names was initially given, Josina Anderson has reported that Collin Kaepernick is no longer in the mix.
The #Jets are not pursuing Colin Kaepernick to address their immediate need for QB depth.
I’m told they’ll look to at least narrow down their options today.
The current* mindset is to bring a QB in who fits the chemistry of Zach Wilson being the guy, & knows system &/or staff. https://t.co/y0hdLlRArE

Anderson also reported that the team is slated to narrow down their selection soon, hoping to find someone quickly.
The Jets were a preseason favorite among many analysts given the addition of Rodgers.
His injury immediately calls their standing as an AFC contender into question, especially given the unknowns under center.
While the Jets may have won their battle against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, there are a lot more games to be played.
Wilson didn’t exactly inspire confidence during his first few seasons as the Jets’ starter, which is why a question mark remains.
The next several days should reveal a lot about what the organization thinks about Wilson.
If they bring in a premium option, there is a larger chance that the player will eventually start over Wilson.
However, if the Jets bring in a bargain piece, they will likely stay as Wilson’s backup unless he gets hurt.
A lot of factors are at play for this team, even though they won their first game of the year.
Stay tuned for the next few weeks, which should provide lots of drama for this franchise.
