The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be legitimate NBA title contenders once again during the 2023-24 season, with reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid hoping to have another solid season and the team bringing in a new defensive-minded head coach in Nick Nurse to get the team back on track.

Even though the 76ers still have to deal with the James Harden situation, as he still wants to be traded after opting into the last year of his deal earlier in the summer, Philadelphia still has a solid squad and recently added another piece to the championship puzzle.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers have agreed to a one-year deal with guard/forward Kelly Oubre Jr.

Depending on what the 76ers get in return for Harden when or if he’s traded before next season, Oubre will essentially be a replacement for the superstar guard, as he can help shoulder the scoring load for Philadelphia.

Oubre is coming off a strong season with the Charlotte Hornets, in which he was averaging a career-high 20.3 points per game, but dealt with a shoulder strain that kept him from playing more than 48 games during the 2022-23 NBA season.

The 27-year-old has bounced around the league quite a bit since coming into the NBA in 2015, as he’s played for the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Hornets.

Although there’s no telling what this roster will look like once the dust settles following a Harden trade, adding Oubre to the squad seems like a smart move that should help this team moving forward.
