Spain wrapped up the international break in an emphatic fashion, securing a 6-0 win over Cyprus, with Ferran Torres scoring a brace.
However, it wasn’t Torres who was the talking point of the international break for Spain. In fact, it was his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, who made the headlines after scoring on his debut against Georgia.
La Liga president hails Lamine Yamal
Speaking after the international break, La Liga president Javier Tebas has heaped praise on the Barcelona youngster, following his performances for Spain.
“He looks like a star. There are good players and then there are stars. And he is in line to be a star. I already said it about Vinicius,” he said (h/t Diario AS).
Yamal has indeed enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since making a breakthrough during the final phase of last season.
Tebas’ positive comments on Lamine Yamal would certainly come as a surprise to many, given the fact that the La Liga president does not have the best of synergies with Barcelona.

Tebas was not the only one praising Yamal this week. Even Saul Niguez pointed out that the Barça starlet is someone who can be a special player, but must be taken care of.
“We have to let him play. You have to take care of his environment so that he doesn’t go astray. He is on the right path and he can be a cracker,” he said.
Yamal: The next big thing from Barcelona
The youngster was one of Barça’s key attackers during the pre-season and has started the new campaign with two assists in four matches.
Following Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, and Ez Abde’s exits, Yamal has become a crucial component in the Barcelona frontline.
Tebas and Saul’s words are an indicator that Lamal is promising to become the next big star in Spanish football, which is going through a transitionary phase right now.
