Malé, Maldives, January 11, 2025 – The Dhivehi Sifainge Club showcased their dominance in the National Volleyball Championship 2024, organized by the Volleyball Association of Maldives. They secured a triumphant 3-1 victory against Club HDC in a highly anticipated final held at the Social Center Indoor Hall. This remarkable win not only highlights their skill and perseverance but also solidifies their position as a powerhouse in Maldivian volleyball. The event drew significant attention, and fans were thrilled to witness such a high-stakes match filled with intense competition and sportsmanship.

Club HDC Runners-Up in a Competitive Tournament

The tournament commenced on January 5 and featured an elite lineup of the top four teams from the National Volleyball League: Club HDC (HDC), Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC), Sports Club City (SCC), and Blues for Volleyball (BFV). The teams competed in a single round-robin format, where they battled fiercely for a place in the semifinals. The top four teams advanced, with the second-ranked team going head-to-head against the third-ranked team, while the top-ranked team awaited the winners in the finals, adding to the excitement of this competitive volleyball tournament.

The final showdown between DSC and HDC kicked off at 8:30 PM local time, graced by the presence of Abdulla Rafiu, the Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, serving as the chief guest. The atmosphere was electric as fans cheered for their favorite teams, creating a vibrant and supportive environment that highlighted the unity and passion for volleyball in the Maldives.

HDC started the match with impressive momentum, taking the first set 25-17, bolstered by their star foreign players, Mubashar Raza from Pakistan and Nurmukhammed Toktoev from Kyrgyzstan. However, DSC demonstrated remarkable resilience, mounting a comeback by winning the next three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-23. This incredible turnaround resulted in a 3-1 victory for DSC, earning them the coveted championship trophy and further enhancing their reputation in the sport.

The standout performer of the match was DSC‘s Hussain Razzan, who consistently broke through HDC‘s defensive blocks, earning him the title of Man of the Match. Additionally, foreign imports Muhammad Waqar and Muhammad Hamad played crucial roles in securing points for DSC, contributing significantly to the team’s overall victory and showcasing their exceptional skills on the court.

This championship marked a significant achievement for DSC, as they successfully defended their title from the previous year. The participating teams qualified through the National Volleyball League 2024, where HDC ranked first, followed closely by DSC, SCC, BFV, and Maldives Police Club (PLC), with PLC narrowly missing out on qualification, further emphasizing the competitive nature of volleyball in the Maldives.
