Manchester United is reportedly open to the possibility of transferring Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo during the upcoming January transfer window.
Both players demonstrated significant potential and were standout performers for the Red Devils amid a challenging season last year. However, they could be on their way out of Old Trafford if a favorable offer materializes. The club appears willing to consider selling homegrown talents to ensure compliance with Financial Fair Play regulations, although such actions would be taken with great reluctance, as noted by The Athletic.
While the report suggests that Manchester United is not “actively” pursuing the sale of these promising young players, the club remains realistic about its current financial landscape and potential future needs.

Manchester United’s Reluctance to Part with Talented Players Garnacho and Mainoo
Any transfer fees received for Garnacho or Mainoo would be considered pure profit in Manchester United’s financial accounts, as both players emerged from the club’s esteemed academy. This financial benefit is why they, along with other talents like Marcus Rashford, are not categorized as “untouchable” assets within the team. It highlights the club’s strategy of balancing financial health while nurturing homegrown talent.
Mainoo, who is under contract until 2027 with an option for an additional year, has attracted interest from Chelsea, who reportedly hold the 19-year-old in “high regard” and have included him in their list of potential transfer targets. Despite this interest, Chelsea does not currently view the midfielder as a “priority” for this transfer window, although they plan to keep a close eye on his situation as it unfolds.
On the other hand, Garnacho, who secured a new five-year contract in 2023, was notably omitted from the matchday squad alongside Rashford during the recent Manchester derby. Nevertheless, both players, including Mainoo, are believed to be integral to Ruben Amorim’s strategic plans moving forward, indicating the management’s faith in their potential contributions.
The Argentine forward has yet to establish a defined role within the manager’s preferred 3-4-3 formation, as evidenced by the fact that nine of his 13 appearances under Amorim have come from the bench. This situation raises questions about his fit within the tactical setup and whether he can solidify a starting position as the season progresses.
