Milan star Rafael Leao was heavily under scrutiny following his poor display in the Rossonerri’s score-less stalemate against Premier League outfits Newcastle United yesterday evening within their opening fixture of the Champions League.
The 24 year-old failed to find the back of the net with two attempts towards goal and was quite underwhelming in the last 20 minutes of play as he failed to impose any sort of goal-scoring threat in the final third of the pitch. The Portuguese international’s touches were heavy and the left-sided attacker struggled to break through the opposition’s defence.
Consequently, La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luigi Garlando, via MilanNews, was quite critical on the Milanese forward, giving him a 4.5 rating based on Leao’s overall performance in the 90 minutes of play and stated the following:
“That backheel strike was absurdly light-hearted, in Milan’s moment of maximum vulnerability, after the derby. A true leader doesn’t do that.”
With Milan set to face Verona this coming weekend, Milanisti hope that Leao can play a prominent role in guiding the Rossonerri towards a win after failing to secure a victory in their last two fixtures across all competitions.
