NASCAR Euro Series PRO Race Winner: Thomas Krasonis Achieves Breakthrough

The 2025 NASCAR GP Spain will be a memorable milestone for Thomas Krasonis, marking a significant breakthrough for this talented Greek driver. His remarkable achievements over the weekend were twofold: after clinching victory in the OPEN race on Saturday, Krasonis made history by becoming the first competitor from Greece to triumph in EuroNASCAR’s top division during the PRO Round 02. Starting from the pole position, the PK Carsport driver executed a flawless start and dominated the 18-lap race, solidifying his status as a formidable contender in the championship. With a podium finish in PRO Round 01 on Saturday, Krasonis is now the driver everyone is watching as the season unfolds.

In a heartfelt moment in Victory Lane, an emotional Krasonis expressed his gratitude: “First of all, the basics: Costamare, Dodoni, Alon Day, my trainer, my friends, my family, my team boss, the guys from PK, everybody. Without their support, this victory would not have been possible.” He continued, “This achievement is a product of our collective efforts. After six years in this championship, we’ve managed to score two wins in just 24 hours! We’ve shattered every record this weekend, and with our eyes set on the title, we hope to break many more in the future!”

Krasonis’ victory also highlighted his skill in the Junior Trophy classification for drivers aged 25 and under, showcasing the promising future he holds in NASCAR. The PK Carsport team celebrated a stellar 1-2 result, with teammate and reigning PRO champion Vittorio Ghirelli finishing in second place. Ghirelli faced challenges early on, finding himself stuck behind Yvan Muller, but managed to navigate past him. Despite closing the gap, Ghirelli was unable to catch up to Krasonis, finishing five seconds behind. The 30-year-old maintained a steady pace, ensuring the #24 Chevrolet Camaro crossed the finish line safely.

Meanwhile, Paul Jouffreau struggled during the opening lap due to engine issues that left the #3 RDV Competition car lacking power. Despite these setbacks, the Frenchman displayed resilience, ultimately finishing third overall and securing second place in the Junior Trophy. Muller once again exhibited his exceptional defensive driving skills but fell short, finishing in fourth place. Rounding out the top five was Sebastiaan Bleekemolen, who made significant progress for Team Bleekemolen and earned four bonus points for gaining the most positions during the race.

Liam Hezemans narrowly outperformed the “hybrid racer” Garrett Lowe to secure sixth place and the last position on the Junior Trophy podium. Gianmarco Ercoli finished in eighth after encountering some challenges during the first FCY period, which was triggered by Ulysse Delsaux’s retirement. The battle for ninth place saw Jack Davidson and Julien Rehberg locked in a fierce duel, with Davidson ultimately finishing ahead of his German counterpart in his pink Lux Motorsport machine.

Davit Kajaia emerged victorious in the Challenger Trophy, finishing 14th overall. The Georgian driver faced a late scare when a lapped car, driven by Michael Bleekemolen, spun in front of him during the final corner. Kajaia’s experience shone through as he narrowly avoided what could have been a race-ending incident just meters from the finish line. Claudio Cappelli took risks that resulted in three track limit penalties, dropping him to second in the classification. Max Lanza, also receiving a track limit penalty, completed the podium for the Challenger Trophy.

In the overall championship standings, Thomas Krasonis leads both the overall and Junior Trophy standings for the first time, amassing an impressive 75 points. Paul Jouffreau’s podium finish on Sunday places him just one point behind Krasonis. The reigning champion, Ghirelli, begins his title defense in third place, trailing his PK Carsport teammate by seven points. Muller and Hezemans round out the top five, with Hezemans also being a contender in the top three of the Junior Trophy. Kajaia leads the Challenger Trophy standings from 11th place, ahead of Kenko Miura and Cappelli.
