I find myself drafting these offseason workout dates posts several times throughout the year, and it’s always an exciting task. With the 2024 schedule release just around the corner, we can look forward to diving into historical analyses and roster evaluations over the next couple of months. It’s essential to share these timely updates while we still have engaging content to discuss, especially as fans look forward to the upcoming season filled with potential and promise!

As a helpful reminder, the NFL OTA program and mandatory minicamp are structured into several distinct phases, each designed to prepare the players for the season ahead. The phases are outlined below:

Phase One encompasses the initial two weeks of the program, during which activities are limited to meetings, strength and conditioning exercises, and physical rehabilitation only. This foundational phase is crucial for getting players back into the rhythm of training.

Phase Two follows and spans the next three weeks of the program. On-field activities may include individual or group instruction, various drills, as well as “perfect play drills.” These drills feature offensive players lining up against defensive players, all conducted at a walkthrough pace. Importantly, no live contact or team offense versus team defense drills are permitted during this phase, ensuring player safety.

Phase Three consists of the following four weeks of the program, where teams are allowed to engage in a total of 10 days of organized team practice activities, known as “OTAs.” While live contact is still not permitted, drills such as 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 are allowed, offering a more dynamic training experience.

The mandatory minicamp occurs during the final two weeks of Phase Three and is required for all veteran players on the roster. This ensures that the entire team is aligned and prepared as they head into the crucial stages of the offseason.
