
Rohit Sharma is back as India captain for the ODI series versus India after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29. In the very first ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium, Rohit revealed his casual finest while Washington Sundar appealed for LBW and the umpire was not interested. The India opener at first reluctant to opt for the evaluation, reprimanded Sundar for being not completely sure of the termination.

Nissanka, Wellalage conserve Sri Lanka from another collapse
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat initially and the choice showed to be devastating as the hosts were lowered to 101 for 5 in 27 overs. The Indian bowlers performed the more attack and limited the Lankan Lions to simply 230 runs for 8 wickets after 50 overs. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel brought 2 wickets each as other bowlers contributed with one each.
Sri Lanka were on the edge of another batting collapse looking like the 3rd T20I. Opener, Pathum Nissanka kept one end as wickets toppled on the other end. He scored a gritty 56 off 75 balls and remained till the 27th over. With no other considerable knock, Wellalage played an out-of-character innings of an unbeaten 67 off 65 balls to take his group to a reputable rating.
