Bukayo Saka stated Arsenal ‘smelled blood’ in their record-breaking 6-0 win at West Ham on Sunday.
Arsenal protected their most significant ever Premier League away win after a callous six-goal efficiency at the London Stadium.
The Gunners moved within 2 points of leaders Liverpool with an emphatic efficiency that saw Arsenal race into a four-goal lead at half-time.
William Saliba headed in an opener from Declan Rice’s corner kick, before Bukayo Saka won and transformed a charge to double the lead. Arsenal then capitalised on more bad West Ham protecting as Gabriel kipped down from Rice’s free-kick and Leandro Trossard made it 4-0 at the break.
Thousands of West Ham fans headed for the exits at the period in demonstration at the efficiency, however Arsenal declined to let up after the break.
Saka’s 2nd made it 5, and Rice finished the scoring with a sensational 6th as the previous West Ham captain netted a magnificent objective from range on his go back to the London Stadium.
“We were 4-0 up in the first half and we could have scored more,” Saka stated to Sky Sports.
“We smelled blood today and went for the kill.”
Saka’s very first objective saw him net his 50th in all competitors in an Arsenal t-shirt and the winger stated he was thrilled to pass that goalscoring turning point.
“I am really happy to achieve that. I missed some chances that I could have scored but it is a great achievement and I am proud of that.”
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard likewise offered his view on the efficiency and stated the Gunners controlled from start to complete.
“Brilliant efficiency. From begin to end we controlled and managed whatever. Today, we were truly sharp in front of objective. I’m proud of the group. Coming from a huge video game [against Liverpool] and a big win and backing it up today with a piece de resistance.
“We are focusing on ourselves. We don’t care too much about the other teams. We keep working hard. It’s a good win but we move on.”
