Seahawks Reunite with Cornerback Willie Roberts After Trade

Minnesota Vikings News and Links, 12 March 2024

The Seattle Seahawks made a strategic decision to trade away Darrell Taylor, which subsequently opened a crucial vacancy on their 90-man roster. The management swiftly acted to fill this gap, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a competitive squad as they head into the next season.

In an interesting turn of events, the Seattle Seahawks have re-signed rookie cornerback Willie Roberts, who had recently been waived following the addition of tight ends Michael Ezeike and Devin Garrison. This move highlights the team’s ongoing focus on strengthening their defensive lineup, particularly in the cornerback position.

With the recent trade of Mike Jackson Sr. and the mysterious injury sidelining Tre Brown during the last couple of practices, the need for cornerback depth has become increasingly apparent. Although Brown is expected to return next week, ensuring adequate coverage for the final preseason game is essential for the team’s defensive strategy.

Willie Roberts emerged as an exceptional defensive back during his tenure at Louisiana Tech, where he showcased his skills by recording five interceptions over two seasons. His impressive performance earned him a spot as a semifinalist for the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award, which honors the top defensive back in college football. After going undrafted, he was invited to a minicamp tryout by the Seahawks, and although he did not secure a contract immediately, he was ultimately signed three weeks ago just before the onset of the preseason.

For at least one more weekend, we enthusiastically welcome back Willie Roberts to the Seattle Seahawks roster, and we look forward to seeing how he contributes to the team’s defensive efforts moving forward!
