For the second consecutive week, the three-time and reigning Great Lakes Super Sprints presented by PERFIT & ARP (GLSS) Champion, Max Stambaugh, celebrated a triumphant return to GLSS Victory Lane. This victory, particularly significant as it marked his first-ever GLSS-sanctioned win at his home track, kicked off the Ohio CAT Division season with a bang. Stambaugh’s performance not only showcased his driving prowess but also highlighted his deep connection to the local racing scene.
Stambaugh, alongside fellow competitor and defending Ohio CAT Division Champion, Dustin Daggett, led the field as they took to the green flag. Stambaugh’s fortunate streak continued as he drew the number one pill for the third consecutive week, setting the stage for an exciting race. On the opening lap, the two champions engaged in a thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle before Stambaugh managed to gain the upper hand. Meanwhile, Mike Keegan struggled to maintain his position within the top 10, while Gregg Dalman secured himself comfortably in third place. The fierce competition continued as Phil Gressman, Zeth Sabo, and Keegan contested fiercely for the 4th through 6th positions throughout much of the race.
In other exciting developments, Ohio drivers Chase Dunham, Devon Dobie, and Jared Horstman found themselves embroiled in a closely contested battle within the top 10. The only caution of the night occurred just after the halfway mark when Luke Griffith spun out in turns three and four, but fortunately, he was able to continue racing. Following the restart, Keegan made a strong push to reclaim a spot on the podium, while Stambaugh once again pulled away from Daggett, demonstrating his dominance.
For the second consecutive week, Stambaugh showcased his skills by leading from start to finish, ultimately achieving his second win of the 2025 season. His consistent performance underscores his position as a formidable competitor in the series.
“It’s been a while, Limaland,” Stambaugh expressed emotionally in Victory Lane. “It’s the best I’ve felt here in a long time. Just winning in front of where I grew up, my dad’s here, my mom – it just means a lot,” he concluded, visibly moved by the victory and the support of his family.
Zeth Sabo earned the coveted Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award and triumphed in Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race Number One, while Stambaugh clinched victory in Howard Johnson by Wyndham Heat Race Number Two. Additionally, Jared Horstman was recognized as the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger for advancing three spots during the race.
The next thrilling event on the schedule for the Great Lakes Super Sprints will take place on Friday, May 9th, as the series returns to I-96 Speedway.
