Key moments included the historic ITTF World Championships held in the Korea Republic, the thrilling return of the Singles World Cup in Macao, and the largest table tennis event ever staged in Rome, which attracted over 6,000 Masters players. Additionally, the unparalleled success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris and a significant overhaul of the ITTF World Para Circuit were celebrated. Notably, the year also marked the inaugural World Esports Championships, demonstrating table tennis’s expansion into the exciting realm of digital competitions.
Special commendation was given to the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2024, which was recognized as a remarkable success. The Board also reviewed an in-depth report on the trial of the Table Tennis Review (TTR) system during the event, highlighting the ITTF’s unwavering commitment to innovation in officiating and enhancing the integrity and excitement of the sport.
As the Board looks forward to 2025, there is a strong sense of optimism regarding the sport’s future trajectory. Updates were provided on the ITTF World Championships Finals, various World Cups, and ongoing development initiatives. The work of the Athletes’ Commission, progress from the ITTF Foundation, and the presentation of the 2025 calendar by World Table Tennis featuring a record number of events were all discussed. Furthermore, the Executive Board approved the extension of the anti-doping services agreement with the International Testing Agency (ITA) for the period of 2025-2028 and appointed Abdulla Al-Mulla as the Chair of the Nominations Committee.
On December 7, the ITTF Continental Council convened to finalize a comprehensive proposal for the qualification pathway and competition format for the upcoming ITTF World Championships Finals London 2026, which will be presented to the ITTF Council for approval. This proactive approach ensures that the future events are well-structured and accessible for all participants.
Reflecting on a year filled with historic firsts and monumental achievements, the ITTF Executive Board is excited to propel the sport’s momentum into 2025.
