“Tommy ran [Friday] and still didn’t feel great, experiencing some lingering soreness in his ankle,” stated Roberts. “He felt it was best not to play tonight or even potentially tomorrow. We decided to backdate his injury, knowing he could be out for a maximum of 10 days to ensure he recovers properly. We felt this was the most straightforward decision.”

After sustaining an ankle injury last week, Edman was officially moved to the injured list due to ankle inflammation. In a corresponding roster move, the Dodgers called up Hyeseong Kim, a standout from the Korea Baseball Organization, allowing him to make his much-anticipated MLB debut.

Although the absence of Edman poses challenges for the team, Kim has stepped up admirably, showcasing his skills by participating in a few plays at second base. He even made a notable impact as a pinch runner, successfully stealing his first base during his debut game on Sunday night.

Edman was acquired by the Dodgers through a three-team trade that involved the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals, which also brought relief pitcher Michael Kopech to Los Angeles. Given Edman’s recent recovery from a wrist injury and Kopech’s struggles prior to his success in L.A., the Dodgers effectively made a strategic move that required minimal sacrifice in exchange for these valuable players.

Both Edman and Kopech made instant contributions to the team, but Edman’s performance reached new heights when he donned the Dodgers uniform for the first time. His OPS of .711 across 37 regular-season games was commendable, yet his remarkable postseason performance, including a slash line of .328/.354/.508 and an impressive OPS of .862, earned him NLCS MVP honors and played a vital role in leading the Dodgers to their eighth World Series title.

In the World Series alone, Edman achieved a remarkable OPS of .988, complemented by a home run and two stolen bases, showcasing his prowess under pressure.

It is hoped that Roberts’ assessment of Edman’s condition proves accurate, allowing the utility star to return to the diamond swiftly. Edman is eligible to make his return this coming Saturday, which will be a welcome boost for the team.
