Chelsea have made Victor Osimhen their 'priority objective' after a deal for Samu Omorodion collapsed.

Chelsea has identified Victor Osimhen as their top transfer target after a failed attempt to sign Samu Omorodion.

After reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid for a £34.5 million transfer of Omorodion, Chelsea faced significant challenges in finalizing personal terms with the player. This failure has led to the decision that the transfer is now officially off, prompting Chelsea to refocus their efforts on securing a deal for the highly sought-after Nigerian striker, Osimhen. His performance and potential have made him a key target for the club, emphasizing Chelsea’s commitment to strengthening their squad this season.

According to reports, the offer for Omorodion is now ‘100% off,’ and Chelsea is redirecting its negotiation efforts towards acquiring Osimhen. The Nigerian striker has publicly expressed his desire to depart from Napoli this summer and has already initiated preliminary discussions with Chelsea regarding a potential move to the Premier League. However, Osimhen is not interested in a temporary loan deal to West London; he prefers an arrangement that includes a mandatory purchase option. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions concerning his salary expectations, which could impact the negotiations moving forward.

In recent updates, El Chiringuito television reporter Marcos Benito noted that Chelsea is now intensifying its focus on reaching an agreement for Osimhen. Securing this player would signal a significant statement signing for the club under the management of Enzo Maresca. Osimhen’s impressive record of 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli, including being the league’s top scorer during the 2022/23 Serie A title-winning season, showcases his ability to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

Osimhen was honored as the African Footballer of the Year for 2023 and has been vocal about his ambition to play in the Premier League at some point in his career. Earlier this summer, Paris Saint-Germain expressed interest in acquiring Osimhen, but the French champions hesitated to meet Napoli’s valuation of the player, leaving the door open for Chelsea to capitalize on this opportunity.

Interestingly, Napoli’s pursuit of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea may facilitate negotiations between the two clubs, potentially allowing for a smoother transition for Osimhen. In addition to this, Chelsea is reportedly in discussions with Atletico Madrid about the possibility of Joao Felix returning to Stamford Bridge, further showcasing the club’s ambition to revamp its squad ahead of the new season.
