UFC commentator and renowned podcast host Joe Rogan expressed his outrage regarding the controversial decision in the highly publicized boxing match between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. Rogan’s passionate remarks highlight the intense emotions surrounding this bout.
During Tuesday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” he stated, “Francis Ngannou had never had a boxing match ever in his life, had zero boxing matches, but he was the UFC heavyweight champion, knocked down Tyson Fury in the third round, beat him up in the eighth round.” This statement illustrates Ngannou’s unexpected performance and raises questions about the officiating in the fight.
Rogan further commented, “Most people, including me, thought he should’ve won the decision, including most boxers, most boxing pundits.” He noted that Ngannou lost by just one point on one judge’s scorecard while winning on another. Rogan criticized one judge’s score of 96-93 for Fury as “outrageous,” emphasizing the widespread belief that Ngannou deserved a fairer outcome.
This high-stakes match took place in a glitzy arena, the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and attracted numerous celebrities. Ngannou reportedly earned a staggering $10 million, excluding pay-per-view earnings, marking the largest payday of his career. He claimed that this amount surpassed his total earnings from all his previous fights in the UFC.
“We thought (Fury) was going to run him over because he’s the boxing heavyweight champion,” Rogan stated. He recalled Fury’s pre-fight confidence, saying, “‘There’s no way this guy can box with me.’ After the fight, Ngannou humorously rebutted, stating, ‘You are a sh*tty professor,’ highlighting the surprising turn of events.
Currently, Ngannou is signed with the PFL for his MMA fights and has become one of the most sought-after boxers globally. His future in MMA remains uncertain, yet it is evident that he has the potential to earn significantly more in professional boxing compared to mixed martial arts.
