Sekeres and Price: Darren Dreger Provides Insight on Vancouver Canucks’ Future Moves.
NHLRumors.com transcription
Dreger: “Allvin is open to every possibility, within reason, right? Within reason. I don’t want people listening to say, ‘Oh my God. That sounds like they’re considering this player, or that player.’ No.
What I mean is that the Canucks have their foundational players, and those key figures are not going anywhere. However, the organization is willing to be aggressive in exploring options to enhance their roster.
NHL Rumors: Analyzing the Future of Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, and Vancouver Canucks
Blake Price: “Is he focused on acquiring established NHL roster players? Or is he looking at younger prospects who haven’t yet found their footing in the league?”
Dreger: “Well, I followed up with that, and I thought that they’d be more age-sensitive. I really did. But no, they’re open to anything. They just understand that they need to build a deeper team and become more competitive.
This means they’re unlikely to take on players with long-term contracts unless they fit perfectly, or they’re older players who wouldn’t impact the team’s future significantly.
There will be certain parameters in all of this, but I initially thought they would be more age-sensitive than it actually seems.”
Price: “Interesting.”
Matt Sekeres: “What about (Brock) Boeser and (Conor) Garland, Dregs? Do you know anything regarding the potential of those two wingers being moved?”
Dreger: “I don’t have specific details, but I am willing to include players like that in the conversation. Anything is possible, and that seems fair to say. Alongside the younger talents we still need to evaluate, we also have established young guys like (Elias) Pettersson and (Quinn) Hughes, who are definitely not going anywhere.
NHL Rumors: Navigating a Complex Offseason for the Vancouver Canucks
However, beyond that core, I can’t dismiss the possibility of moving players like Garland or Brock Boeser. They will need to devise a strategy for managing their salary cap situation, especially since we know it isn’t increasing significantly.
So if they decide not to trade J.T. Miller, wouldn’t it make sense for them to consider moving Garland or Brock Boeser instead?”
