The West Ham United fans will be breathing a sigh of relief after Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on Lucas Paqueta.
West Ham signed Lucas Paqueta from Lyon in the summer of 2022 for a club record £51 million fee (The Times).

He has proven to be an exceptional signing from Hammers boss David Moyes, although an investigation into betting irregularities pertaining to yellow cards received by the Brazilian is definitely a concern.

The 26-year-old was also heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer, and Newcastle are keen to sign him as well according to a report from The Daily Mail.
However, it appears as though that interest is nowhere near concrete just yet…
West Ham fans will breath a huge sigh of relief after Fabrizio Romano’s big Lucas Paqueta update
The well-renowned football journalist has been speaking to CaughtOffside about Paqueta’s current situation at the London Stadium.
And Romano insisted that neither Man City or Newcastle are currently planning to try and sign the 26-year-old in the January transfer window:

“Another deal that nearly happened this summer was Lucas Paqueta, who was targeted by Manchester City. Of course clubs are now waiting to see the end of the investigation story. Newcastle were also interested back in May, but then they never sent proposals as their focus was on Sandro Tonali. Manchester City always appreciated Paqueta but they invested money on Matheus Nunes, big money; so at the moment they’re not planning for that move in January.”
Phew!
At least that means that we should be able to keep Lucas Paqueta at West Ham for the entirety of this season at the very least.
And even if we are forced to sell him next summer, we’ll make a huge £34 million profit on him, with his £85 million release clause having been well documented (Daily Mail).
Until the time comes that said clause is activated, let’s just enjoy him while we can.
Paqueta is an excellent footballer and who knows, if the club match his ambition, we might just be able to keep him around for a while longer yet.
