Kylian Mbappé continues his hot start to the 2023-24 season as the 24-year-old scored in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. The winger has eight goals in all competitions this season and wants to prove that PSG doesn’t need Lionel Messi or Neymar Jr.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is at the center of the project, at least for this season. Nonetheless, his uncertain future isn’t stopping the Frenchman from racking up goals and being considered the best player in football.
After Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League win on Matchday 1 at the Parc des Princes, Luis Enrique noted that few players are at the forward’s level.
“To this day, he is one of the best players in the world,” Enrique told reporters postgame (h/t Culture PSG). “What surprised me the most was not his physical or technical quality, but his human qualities.
“It’s a pleasure to have a leader of this caliber at PSG. He’s so positive, always with his head held high. It’s very, very important for a team.”
Mbappé is playing on an expiring contract, so eventually, talks regarding what the player will do are going to become the focal point. It will be interesting to see if the capital club can secure an extension or if PSG supporters must enjoy this season with this new-look attack.
